Palestine’s Tell al-Sultan placed on UNESCO’s world heritage list

Palestine‘s Tell al-Sultan pre-historic site, located near the occupied Palestinian city of Jericho is placed on UNESCO’s world heritage list on Sunday.

Located in the Jordan valley in occupied Palestine, 270 yards below sea level, Tell al-Sultan is both the lowest city in the world and one of the first inhabited, since its first foundations date back to more than 9,000 years BCE. As its rich past testifies, Jericho is all about diversity: mosques blend with Orthodox, Latin, Coptic, and Armenian churches.

The decision was taken at the 45Th world heritage meeting held in the Saudi capital Riyadh.in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, under the aegis of the U.N. Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, UNESCO.

President Mahmoud Abbas welcomed the decision, considering it extremely important and evidence of the authenticity and history of this Palestinian people, stressing that the State of Palestine will continue to preserve this unique site for all humanity.
