UK lowers coronavirus threat level from high to general circulation

UK chief medical officers have on Monday lowered the nation’s threat level around coronavirus from “high or rising exponentially” to a benchmark of “general circulation.”

Health officials noted that the pandemic is far from over and that localised outbreaks are expected to continue, Reuters reported, but cited the steady decline in the number of coronavirus infections in making the change.

Since mid-May, the UK had been under threat level four, “transmission is high or rising exponentially.”

The UK is one of the hardest hit countries in the world, with more than 50,000 coronavirus-related reported deaths, according to official data.
