Egypt’s annual inflation rate rose to 13.0 per cent in July 2026 from 12.2 per cent in June. The general Consumer Price Index (CPI) reached 289.9 points, up 0.1 per cent month on month, according to a report released by the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) on Monday.
The monthly increase was mainly driven by higher prices for vegetables, which rose 2.0 per cent; outpatient services, by 1.5 per cent; hospital services, by 1.6 per cent; housing rentals, by 0.8 per cent; and telephone and fax equipment, by 1.2 per cent.
These rises came despite a 2.1 per cent decline in meat and poultry prices and a 1.1 per cent decrease in personal effects.
The food and beverages division declined 0.1 per cent in July, while housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel rose 0.6 per cent. The health division increased 0.6 per cent, while transport and communications each rose 0.1 per cent.
On an annual basis, food and beverage prices increased by 7.9 per cent, with cereals and bread rising by 2.9 per cent, meat and poultry by 4.0 per cent, and fish and seafood by 4.4 per cent.
Housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel recorded the strongest annual increase among the main divisions, rising 31.1 per cent, driven by a 28.1 per cent increase in actual housing rentals and a 50.9 per cent rise in imputed housing rentals.
Transport prices rose 21.1 per cent year on year, while communications increased 10.5 per cent and education rose 20.0 per cent. Post-secondary and technical education recorded the largest increase within education, at 364.5 per cent.
