U.S. Shares Trim Losses As Nasdaq Erases Dip

U.S. shares trimmed their losses after a gauge of home-building activity climbed slightly in June, but remained well below what is considered a healthy level.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA -0.14% fell 23.69 points, or 0.2%, to 12,743.48. The S&P 500 SPX +0.01% shed 1.22 point, or less than 0.1%, to 1,341.62.

The Nasdaq Composite COMP +0.39% rose 5.82 points, or 0.2%, to 2,878.60.
