The World Bank Group (WBG) has approved a $15-million grant offered by the its affiliate International Development Association (IDA) to South Sudan to strengthen the country’s public service through. The South Sudanese government will offer $3 million from the same initiative.
The Building Institutional Foundations for an Effective Public Service Project (BIFEPS) will focus on enhancing civil service management, institutional development, and the implementation of sector reforms over a three-year period. The project will also improve transparency and accountability in the pension fund.
This initiative aligns with South Sudan’s National Development Strategy, which prioritises transparent governance and public service reform.
World Bank Country Director Maryam Salim highlighted the project’s role in fostering a performance-based culture in service delivery. Minister Dak Duop Bichiok stressed the importance of aligning staffing structures and developing future civil servants through professional opportunities.
