Yemenis over 50 Years Old to enter Egypt without Visa

Egyptian authorities are to allow Yemeni citizens over the age of 50 to enter Egypt without a visa or security permit, Al-Ahram Arabic website reported.

Ashraf Reda, head of the Passports Department at Cairo International Airport, said Wednesday that prior visa and security requirements will still apply to Yemenis under 50.

Previously, Yemenis aged 18 to 60 have had to get visas and security permits from Egyptian consulates and embassies abroad in order to enter the country.

Earlier this week, Yemeni Vice President and Prime Minister Khaled Bahah visited Cairo and met with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi. Bahah signed a number of memorandums of understanding with Egypt’s Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab, including one against terrorism.

Egypt is a member of the Saudi-led coalition that has been fighting against Shia Houthi rebels in war-torn Yemen since March.

Coalition airstrikes continue across the country despite a June UN-proposed truce.
