1000 New Learners Graduated from Vodafone Egypt’s ‘Knowledge is Power’ initiative

Vodafone Egypt Foundation for Community Development announced yesterday that 1000 beneficiaries from the second phase of National Illiteracy Eradication Initiative ‘Knowledge is Power’ as the experimental project has been launched in 2011 and 187 thousand people subscribed in it until the end of 2013, 94 thousands have been succeeded, the female’s rate up 60% as eradicating illiteracy will better position to Egypt and push it to the right direction in terms of better manpower and development.

Eng Mohamed Henna, Managing Director Vodafone Egypt Foundation for Community Development, said the foundation sets ‘Knowledge is Power’ initiative at its top priorities, noting that Vodafone Egypt Community keens on providing all the guarantees for the initiative’s success in turning Egypt’s dream free from illiteracy to the fact and the reality.

Henna illustrated that this comes in the light of Vodafone’s keenness to act its national role in developing and progressing the Egyptian community , noting that Vodafone and its communities see that education and eradication of illiteracy are the backbone of community.

Nihad El Ghamry, CSR and Foundation Manager, said the initiative is the largest civil community initiative in the field of eradication of illiteracy in the term of size and geographic region the pilot phase bared positive results in nine governorates namely Cairo, Giza, Beni Suef, Suez, Alexandria, Sohag, Minya, Monofeya and Sharkeya, whereas over 128,000 illiterates registered for the Knowledge is Power classes with over 93,000 succeeded at completing the program. Moreover, more than 15,000 volunteers took part in the pilot phase creating and managing over 900,000 illiteracy eradication classes all over Egypt. Additionally, Vodafone Egypt seized the opportunity to develop the first mobile application for illiteracy eradication to help the students in studying and develop their skills.
