American Samoa remains coronavirus-free
American Samoa continues to be a coronavirus-free place, a U.S. pandemic task force official said on Thursday.
“We still don’t have a confirmed case.” Iulogologo Joseph Pereira, chairman of American Samoa Coronavirus Task Force, told NBC News.
The U.S. territory has halted flights from Hawaii, declared a state of emergency and put a coronavirus pandemic plan into action.
The island initially sent test samples to the U.S. Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta for analysis but now has its own machine to do that.
“We are steadily conducting tests which so far have all come back negative,” Pereira add.
