Egypt has sufficient stocks of medicines, preventive supplies in all hospitals – minister

Egypt has sufficient stocks of medicines as well as medical and preventive supplies in all hospitals across the country, its Minister of Health Hala Zayed said on Monday.

From his part, ministry spokesman Khaled Megahed directed the pharmaceutical inspection units to intensify their inspection of pharmacies to ensure the availability of medicines and medical supplies, and that they are not being hoarded.

Zayed called the public not to withdraw large quantities of immunity medicines without needing them, Megahed added.

The coronavirus medications under the Egyptian treatment protocols are prescribed based on three categories of COVID-19 patients: those in isolation hospitals, in contacts of positive cases, and cases in home isolation, he said.

According to Megahed, those medications are delivered to those in contacts and home isolation through 5,400 health units and 1,000 medical convoys across all governorates.

The number of hospitals that receive suspected coronavirus cases has surged to 376, covering all regions and neighbourhoods nationwide, he said.
