On International Museum Day, Egypt opens two new museums at Cairo Airport

On International Museum Day, Egypt has inaugurated on Tuesday two new museums at Cairo International Airport.

The two museums were inaugurated by Egyptian Tourism and Antiquities Minister Khaled al-Anani.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the new museums, located in the Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 buildings, will allow visitors to “have a glimpse of Egypt’s treasures there,”

The inauguration was attended by Civil Aviation Minister Mohamed Manar, the statement added.

International Museum Day

Organised on 18 May each year or around this date, the International Museum Day (IMD) highlights a specific theme which changes every year to reflect the basis of the international museum community’s preoccupations. The IMD theme for 2021 is “The Future of Museums: Recover and Reimagine.”

All around the world, more and more museums take part in the IMD.

The inaugural International Museum Day was held in 1977, and since then it has grown in popularity. The International Museum day’s importance is of creating awareness about the role of museums in the development of society on a global level.
