Egypt to launch international news channel for COP27 climate summit
Egypt’s United Media Services (UMS) announced in July 6 the launch of the United News Sector, which includes an international news channel that will launched in coinciding with the United Nations Climate Change Conference 2022 (COP27).
The international channel that the company plans to launch will called Cairo News, a well-informed source working with UMS, noted.
The source added that work is currently underway at the Egyptian Media Production City headquarters near Cairo to prepare the studios for the new channel.
The head of the news channels department at UMS Ahmed al-Tahiri described the channel as one of the largest news groups in the Middle East.
al-Tahri said: “It is time for Egyptians to own their own news channel with a presence in all capitals of the world in order to convey Egypt’s vision and point of view, instead of broadcasting news on non-Egyptian news channels.”
Egypt seeks to restore its media influence in the Middle East and Africa and present itself as a voice for African and developing countries on climate issues before representatives of developed countries that will attend COP27.
The Climate Change Conference 2022 scheduled for next November in Egypt-Sharm El-Sheikh.
