Another forest fire broke out again on Saturday at the summit of Mount Brocken, the highest mountain in Germany, and hundreds of tourists were evacuated.
On the other hand, the fire had not yet been brought under control, according to the Fernigerode council.
An area around 62 hectares of forest is now burning, which corresponds to around 86 football pitches.
Noteworthy that five firefighting helicopters and more than 300 emergency services are fighting the fire.
Wernigerode spokeswoman Ariane Hoffmann said that there are four helicopters from Saxony-Anhalt would be deployed early Sunday morning. In addition to that two other helicopters and a circular sprinkler device had been requested from Lower Saxony.
The district has now declared a disaster and assumes that extinguishing work will take several days.
The tourists will be taken by bus to safe places due to the presence of thick smoke in the area, a spokeswoman said, noting that the evacuation process will continue until the evening.
