Egypt ready to build up international centre for storage, supply and trade grains – minister

Egypt is ready to cooperate with the international community in establishing a centre for the supply and storage of grain in Egypt, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said to the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Saturday.

Shoukry showed Egypt’s unique geographical location that can be used in order to contribute to solve the food crisis and maintain world food security.

The food security crisis is the result of many years of failure of the international community to achieve the sustainable development goals, Shoukry added.

The minister continued that in Africa 1 among 5 people exposed at starvation risk, as the continent remains a food importer by $43 billion.

This announcement coincides UN’s Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres declared that more than 4.3 million tons of food have been transported to 29 countries since the signing of an initiative to export grain from the Black Sea.

Guterres pointed out to the importance of increasing these shipments to reduce the prices of basic materials in global markets.
