Mahmoud Balbaa, Korean Counterpart Discuss Studies of El Dabaa Nuclear Plant

Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Energy, Mahmoud Balbaa, has asserted that South Korea offered cooperation with Egypt to continue the studies of El Dabaa nuclear power plant, which was supposed to be operated on February 2011.

After his meeting with the Korean Minister of Energy, Mahmoud Balbaa said South Korea has offered cooperation in the fields of renewable energy, whether solar energy or wind energy.

A Korean delegation will visit Egypt next January to reactivate the cooperation between the two countries, meanwhile; a big Korean company is studying establishing projects for the solar energy in the New Valley Governorate, on an area of 2000 acres.

Last November, the Egyptian Minister of Investment Osama Saleh met a delegation of GKC Global, a Korean Company. The meeting discussed the company’s willingness to build an Independent Power Plant (IPP) in Upper Egypt, with capacity of 1 Gigbyte, and at $ 1.6 billion investing cost. But the plant should consist of combined cycle with 600 Megawatt capacities.

It is worthy to note that Korea has 21nuclear power plants, and it is constructing another seven plants inside, in addition to 4 plants in UAE.
