Egypt to halt wheat tenders by 15 April – minister
Egypt will halt wheat tenders by the beginning of local wheat season in 15th of April, said the Minister of Supply and Trade, Ali Moselhy said in an interview with Al Arabia on Sunday.
Moselhy added that he is reviewing Egypt’s withdrawal from the World Grain Agreement, pointing out to the fact that the withdraw decision is not final.
He also said that there has been an agreement of 120,000 tons of wheat imports from Ukraine in May. Moselhy said that debts from the World Bank and the European Union to import wheat has exceeded $590 million.
The Minister added that Egypt cooperates with all development partners to ensure a strategic reserves of wheat, he also said that Egypt will import around 500,000 tons of wheat by international organizations’ funds.
Mmoselhy also revealed that Egypt received funds of $1.2 billion from the Islamic Development Bank to purchase wheat.
