Remembering Ahmed Zaki’s iconic legacy

On 27 March 2005, iconic Egyptian actor, Ahmed Zaki passed away at the age of 55, leaving behind a timeless legacy of classic role.

Zaki was born on November 18, 1949 in El Zagazig, Sharqiya, and had a great love for acting since he was young. Zaki earned his degree from Cairo Higher Institute for Theatre Studies in 1974, and took part in several plays after graduation; Hello Shalaby, The Honorable Thief and School of the Rowdies.

Zaki went on to act in movies, starting with minor roles, then gained more fame and had bigger roles later on. Zaki starred in iconic films in Egyptian cinema; Eskendria Leh, Kaboria, Edhak El Sora Tetlaa Helwa and Arba’a Fi Muhimma Rasmiya.

Zaki starred in over 60 films and plays, with diverse roles, and starred in two biographical projects; Nasser 56, portraying Egyptian President, Gamal Abdel Nasser, and Ayam El Sadat, portraying Egyptian President Anwar Al Sadat.

Zaki passed away after a severe battle with cancer.

Zaki’s last role was portraying iconic Egyptian singer, Abdel Halim Hafez in the movie, Halim, which was screened in 2006, one year after his death.
