6 Palestinian movies to watch this weekend
In light of the ongoing attack on innocent Palestinian civilians, here are six Palestinian movies to watch this weekend.
1. Lemon Tree (2008)
The movie tells the story of a Palestinian woman who must defend her lemon grove, after an Israeli Defense Minister moves next to her. The movie is set in the Occupied West Bank.
2. The Present (2020)
An Oscar nominee for best live action short film, it tells the story of a Palestinian man who embarks on a trip with his young daughter to by a present for his wedding anniversary. They make their trip through soldiers, segregated roads, and checkpoints.
3. Private (2004)
From Italian filmmaker Saverio Costanzo, Private is about a Palestinian teacher, Mohamed, living with his family in the West Bank. The family is asked to evacuate due to violence near their house, yet Mohamed refuses to do so. Despite his wife’s fears, he insists that the family should stick together in their house.
4. Mediterranean Fever (2022)
The movie tells the story of 40-year-old Waleed who lives in Haifa with his wife and children. He suffers from chronic depression, and is dreaming of a writing career. One day he meets, his neighbour, Jalal, and they form a bond, becoming almost inseparable.
5. 200 Meters (2020)
One of the most celebrated Palestinian movies, the film tells the story of a Palestinian father stuck on the other side of the Separation wall, while he tries to reach his son in the hospital on the other side.
6. 3000 Nights (2015)
3000 Nights tells the story of a young Palestinian school teacher who gives birth to her son in an Israeli prison. The movie follows her as she tries to protect him, as well as survive and maintain hope.
