‘Urgent’ steps needed to ease Gaza crisis – China FM

The world must “act urgently” to calm the ongoing crisis in Gaza, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Monday.

The statement was made during a meeting with diplomats from Arab and Muslim-majority nations in Beijing.

A delegation of foreign ministers of the Palestinian Authority, Egypt, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan are in Beijing this week to attend the talks aimed to de-escalate the current situation in Palestine.

“Let us work together to quickly cool down the situation in Gaza and restore peace in the Middle East as soon as possible,” Wang told ministers at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in the Chinese capital.

“A humanitarian disaster is unfolding in Gaza,” he added.

He also said that the current situation has an effect on all countries in the world and that it questions “the human sense of right and wrong and humanity’s bottom line,”.

“The international community must act urgently, taking effective measures to prevent this tragedy from spreading,” Wang added.

Israel’s aggression on Gaza killed at least 13,000 people in relentless aerial bombardment and ground operations.

Of the victims, 6,000 are children.

Calls for a ceasefire have been circulating among world leaders and public figures for more than three weeks now.
