Sisi directs to implement green hydrogen projects

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Sunday urged the government to begin the execution of agreed-upon green hydrogen projects and establish the required infrastructure for them.

This came during a meeting with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El Molla, and Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker.

The meeting focused on evaluating the government’s progress in executing the national green hydrogen strategy. They examined hydrogen production scenarios, the action plan for the next phase at both the executive and legislative levels, and steps to develop national capabilities.

Egyptian Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy stated that the strategy’s goal is for Egypt to emerge as a global leader in the low-carbon hydrogen economy. This will create more jobs, boost national income in future years, and cut emissions, aligning with Egypt’s commitment to environmental protection.

The meeting also addressed the upcoming projects for implementing the national strategy, the state’s role in lowering hydrogen production costs, and the planned scenarios to cut down on Egypt’s petroleum product imports.

Furthermore, al-Sisi emphasised that the shift towards sustainable energy is a key component of Egypt’s Vision 2030. This shift not only signifies Egypt’s commitment to holistic development but also contributes to the economy, thereby enhancing national development.
