The US-based company Equinix announced on Tuesday the acquisition of three data centres in the Philippines from Total Information Management, marking its entry into the high-growth Southeast Asian market.
The move follows recent expansions in Indonesia and Malaysia, and complements planned growth in Singapore.
“This strategic acquisition, combined with our recent expansions in Malaysia and Indonesia, as well as the awarded data centre capacity in Singapore, will greatly enhance our footprint in the region,” said, Jeremy Deutsch, president, Asia-Pacific, at Equinix.
Southeast Asia presents a compelling landscape for data centre development due to its strong growth potential, young tech-savvy population, cost-effective land and labour, and supportive government policies.
The region has attracted significant investments from global tech giants like Google, Microsoft, and Amazon, driven by surging demand for AI and cloud computing services.
Equinix has further expansion plans, targeting new markets including Jakarta, Indonesia, and Chennai, India later this year.
