ADB approves $500m loan for Indonesia’s energy transition

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a $500 million policy-based loan to help Indonesia accelerate its energy transition.

This loan, part of the Affordable and Sustainable Energy Transition Programme, is the first of two subprograms aimed at supporting Indonesia’s enhanced nationally determined contribution (NDC) and achieving net-zero power emissions by 2050.

The programme will focus on creating a robust policy framework for clean energy, improving sector governance, and ensuring an inclusive energy transition.

Key measures include developing a Comprehensive Investment and Policy Plan (CIPP) and scaling up renewable energy capacity.

The initiative is supported by co-financing partners, including Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and German Development Cooperation through KfW.

ADB has been a critical partner in Indonesia’s energy transition through various financing and technical assistance projects.
