India’s CPI edges up in Sep. ’24

India’s annual consumer inflation rate, as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), rose to 5.49 per cent in September 2024 compared to the same month in 2023. Rural inflation stood at 5.87 per cent, while urban inflation was at 5.05 per cent.

The increase in inflation rate for September is likely attributed to a high base effect and unfavourable weather conditions, a report by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation showed on Monday.

The Consumer Food Price Index (CFPI) inflation rate for September reached 9.24 per cent. Rural and urban CFPI inflation rates were 9.08 per cent and 9.56 per cent, respectively, the report added.

India’s annual housing inflation rate rose to 2.78 per cent in September 2024, up from 2.66 per cent in August, based on urban sector data. While, the all-India Electricity index rose 5.45 per cent in September, up from 4.91 per cent in August.
