ADB approves loan to support Uzbek climate transition

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) approved a $250 million policy-based loan to help Uzbekistan strengthen its institutional frameworks for climate transition, improve climate change adaptation priorities, and speed up climate change mitigation actions.

The Accelerating the Climate Transition Programme will focus on enhancing institutions and public financial management, improving climate resilience in water and land resources management, agriculture, and social protection systems, and promoting a shift to a low-carbon economy in sectors like transport and energy.

ADB’s first climate programme in Central Asia aligns with Uzbekistan’s updated nationally determined contribution, the Strategic Framework for Transitioning to a Green Economy until 2030, and ADB’s country partnership strategy for Uzbekistan (2024-2028).
