Egypt denies LNG shipment disruptions, confirms regasification unit functioning smoothly
Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources on Saturday refuted media reports of technical malfunctions at the Ain Sokhna regasification unit.
The ministry clarified that changes to LNG shipment schedules are part of a strategy to optimise energy efficiency and reduce import bill wherever possible. The ministry highlighted that its existing agreements allow for flexibility in rescheduling the delivery of previously agreed shipments, enabling better alignment with the country’s energy requirements.
The regasification unit is operating efficiently and is capable of meeting the country’s natural gas demand, the ministry’s statement further read.
Earlier, media reports claimed that a technical fault at the Ain Sokhna regasification unit, which allegedly led to the diversion of some liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipments originally destined for Egypt.
