European shares up on ECB easing hints
European shares rose on Monday, boosted by the nomination of a new US Treasury Secretary and comments from European Central Bank (ECB) Chief Economist Philip Lane regarding potential easing of monetary policy.
The pan-European STOXX 600 index climbed 0.29 per cent by 6:37 AM ET (11:37 AM GMT), with Germany’s DAX up 0.44 per cent, France’s CAC 40 rising 0.03 per cent, and Spain’s IBEX 35 edging up 0.63 per cent. The UK’s FTSE 100 gained 0.20 per cent.
