Sri Lanka’s cabinet has temporarily waived the licensing requirement for rice imports until December 20. This decision was made in response to a rice shortage and flood damage to paddy fields.
The cabinet also approved the import of 70,000 tons of rice, with 52,000 tons to be imported through state-owned entities, Lanka Sathosa and the Sri Lanka State Trading (General) Corporation.
These measures aim to address the rising rice prices in the market and ensure adequate supply.
