Egypt’s food exports hit record $5.1b in 10 months

Egypt’s food industry exports reached a record $5.1 billion from January to October 2024, marking an 18 per cent  growth and a $770 million increase compared to the same period in 2023, when exports totaled $4.3 billion. This achievement represents the highest export value and the largest growth rate for the sector during this period in history. It also surpasses the sector’s total export value for all of 2023, which stood at $5.068 billion, with an increase of more than $30 million.

Regional Distribution of Exports

  • Arab Countries:
    • Imports worth $2.675 billion, representing 53 per cent of Egypt’s total food industries exports.
  • European Union (EU):
    • $1.023 billion (20 per cent of exports), a 38 per cent of total exports.
  • Non-Arab African Countries:
    • $425 million (8 per cent), an 8 per cent of total exports.
  • United States:
    • $277 million (5 per cent), a 5 per cent of total exports
  • Rest of the World:

    • $698 million (14 per cent), 14 per cent of total exports.

  • Saudi Arabia: $393 million (a 16 per cent growth).
  • Sudan: $341 million (a 21 per cent decline).
  • United States: $277 million (a 38 per cent growth).
  • Libya: $264 million (a 21 per cent growth).
  • Palestine: $261 million (a 24 per cent growth).
  • Netherlands: $228 million (a 106 per cent growth).
  • Jordan: $198 million (a 25 per cent growth).
  • Morocco: $171 million (a 77 per cent growth).
  • Spain: $164 million (a 66 per cent growth).
  • Yemen: $159 million (1 per cent growth).

  • Netherlands: $117 million increase.
  • United States: $77 million increase.
  • Morocco: $74 million increase.
  • Spain: $65 million increase.

Top Exported Products

  • Soft Drink Concentrates: $463 million (an 8 per cent growth).
  • Flour and Semolina: $401 million (a 5 per cent growth).
  • Frozen Strawberries: $353 million (a 15 per cent growth).
  • Sugar: $339 million (a 19 per cent decline).
  • Juices: $245 million (a 79 per cent growth).
  • Cooking Oils: $245 million (a 155 per cent growth).
  • Frozen Vegetables: $214 million (a 27 per cent growth).
  • Biscuits and Preparations of Cereals: $209 million (a 21 per cent growth).
  • Table Olives: $199 million (a 74 per cent growth).
  • Frozen Potatoes: $187 million (a 898 per cent growth).

Decade-Long Sector Growth

From 2014 to October 2024, Egyptian food industries exports totaled $40.1 billion, underscoring sustained sector growth.
