Egypt’s FM praises ties with Tanzania
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty has praised the longstanding and fraternal relations between Egypt and Tanzania, emphasising Egypt’s strong commitment to enhancing cooperation in various sectors.
He highlighted the significant progress made since President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s visit to Tanzania in August 2017 and the third session of the joint committee held in Cairo in January 2018, which resulted in the signing of memoranda of understanding in areas such as diplomatic training, agriculture, and tourism. Minister Abdel-Aty also expressed eagerness to host the fourth session of the joint committee.
In talks with Tanzanian Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation Mahmoud Thabit Kombo on Wednesday, Minister Abdel-Aty highlighted the increasing interest among Egyptian business leaders and investors in the Tanzanian market. This growing interest is reflected in multiple Egyptian economic, investment, and trade delegations visiting Tanzania, as well as a rise in the number and variety of Egyptian companies operating in the country.
Minister Abdel-Aty noted that Egyptian investments in Tanzania have reached approximately $1.36 billion and expressed hope for further expansion in infrastructure and national projects, particularly in agriculture, livestock, and fisheries. He reaffirmed Egypt’s willingness to provide technical support to Tanzania through the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development.
The Egyptian minister also emphasised Egypt’s priority in completing the Julius Nyerere Dam project, describing it as a model for African cooperation in hydropower development. He noted that construction of the dam is now 99.9 per cent complete and reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to supporting sustainable development in the Nile Basin.
