Egypt climbed 39 places to rank 6th globally on the 2024 Mobile Money Regulatory Index by GSMA, marking the highest global growth in the index. Represented by the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA), Egypt improved its score to 93 from 80 in 2023.
The ranking highlights Egypt’s progress in advancing digital transformation and financial inclusion, with mobile wallets in the country exceeding 50 million by the end of 2024 — a 25 per cent increase from 2023.
Notably, the index, launched in 2018, assesses the regulatory environment for mobile money across 90 countries, focusing on areas such as KYC rules, consumer protection, and investment frameworks.
