Egypt eyes deeper tech ties with Vodacom, PIC

Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat held talks on Monday with Vodacom Group CEO Shameel Joosub, Vodafone Egypt CEO Mohamed Kamal Abdallah, and a South African delegation including officials from the Public Investment Corporation (PIC) and the Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF).

The meeting explored avenues for boosting investments in the Egyptian market and enhancing cooperation in the fields of telecommunications and information technology.

Discussions focused on Egypt’s ongoing projects to support digital transformation, upgrade digital infrastructure, build digital skills, foster tech innovation, and grow the local IT and electronics industry.

Minister Talaat reiterated the ministry’s commitment to creating an attractive investment environment by developing governance and regulatory frameworks that support business growth while ensuring high-quality digital services for citizens.

He also underlined the ministry’s strategy of partnering with the private sector on digital capacity building initiatives tailored to meet corporate workforce demands.

Joosub expressed Vodacom’s interest in expanding its investments in Egypt, citing improved investor sentiment and significant opportunities in digital transformation projects.

The South African investment delegation also praised Egypt’s evolving investment climate and voiced intent to begin investing in areas such as data centres and cybersecurity in the near future.
