Egypt’s Housing Min. inspects “Great Transfiguration” project in St. Catherine

Egypt’s Housing Minister Sherif El Sherbini made an inspection tour on Thursday of the Great Transfiguration project site on the land of peace in St. Catherine, South Sinai, starting with the new St. Catherine transformer substation, which has now been energised.

The minister reviewed landscape works and received a detailed briefing on the project components. He instructed that all landscape works be finalised and power be fully connected across the project’s infrastructure. The development includes connecting electricity to meet current needs and future expansion of St. Catherine.

It features the new 75 MVA transformer substation, designed based on long-term projections, and a 220 kV overhead transmission line linking the existing Nuweiba station to the new site, stretching 100 km and supported by 313 pylons.

Additional works include 123 km of medium-voltage cable networks and the expansion of the Nuweiba substation with two 25 MVA 220 kV cells and surge arresters for integration with the St. Catherine station, along with the construction of transformer and distribution buildings and installation of underground cables.
