Egypt’s museums earn EGP 161.2m in 2023: CAPMAS

Egypt’s museums generated 161.2 million Egyptian pounds in revenue in 2023, the country’s official statistics agency CAPMAS said in a statement ahead of International Museum Day on May 18. The number of visitors rose 11.6 per cent year-on-year to 4.8 million.

A total of 83 museums were in operation across the country last year, including 73 focusing on art and history and 10 dedicated to natural, pure, and applied sciences, the agency said.

Cairo governorate had the highest concentration of museums with 22, followed by Alexandria with 17 and Giza with 13, according to the report.
