China’s GS Global to build $15m garment factory in Egypt’s West Qantara

Egypt’s Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) has signed a $15 million agreement with Chinese apparel manufacturer GS Global Sourcing Co., Ltd to establish a ready-made garments factory in the West Qantara Industrial Area, the Cabinet said in a statement Sunday.

The 27,000-square-metre facility will be fully self-financed and is expected to create around 2,000 direct jobs. The plant will produce more than 12 million garments annually, with 100 per cent of output designated for export, according to the statement.

The project brings total contracted investments in West Qantara to $579.5 million across 19 projects, generating over 27,300 direct jobs. The zone has emerged as a growing hub for export-oriented and labour-intensive manufacturing, drawing interest from global firms seeking integrated infrastructure and strategic access to Red Sea and Mediterranean ports, said SCZone Authority Chairman Walid Gamal El-Din.

GS Global Sourcing reported $600 million in sales in 2022 and manufactures around 100 million garments annually for major international brands. The company operates production facilities in China, Egypt, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Ethiopia, and Kenya.
