China’s EV truck sales to surge by ’28 – CATL

China Contemporary Amperex Technology Company’s (CATL) chairman predicts that by 2028, 50 per cent of China’s heavy truck sales will be electric vehicles, a significant increase from the current 10 per cent in 2024, according to a media report.

Zeng Yuqun’s comments at a heavy-truck battery-swapping launch indicate more challenges for fuel demand in the trucking sector, which is already affected by the increasing popularity of LNG trucks in China.

CATL revealed on Saturday that it had commenced production at a 60 gigawatt-hour energy storage and EV battery manufacturing facility in Shandong, marking its inaugural plant in northern China.

CATL announced on the WeChat social media app that in the next two years, a second and third phase of the project will be implemented, creating an energy industry battery cluster in the region valued at billions of yuan.
