EGX rises as benchmark index gains 0.66% on May 21

The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) closed higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark EGX30 index rising 0.66 per cent to end the session at 31,836.63 points.

The EGX33 Shariah-compliant index edged up 0.29 per cent to 3,255.62 points, while the EGX70 index, which tracks small- and mid-cap stocks, added 0.26 per cent to close at 9,320.10 points. The broader EGX100 index advanced 0.40 per cent, finishing at 12,689.24 points.

Total market capitalisation reached 2.24 trillion Egyptian pounds.

In trading activity, Egyptian and non-Arab foreign investors were net buyers with a net purchase of 1.29 billion pounds and 119.6 million pounds, respectively. Meanwhile, Arab investors were net sellers, offloading 1.41 billion pounds in shares.
