Egypt, Netherlands explore agricultural development cooperation

The Upper Egypt Development Authority (UEDA) held a meeting with the Agricultural Attaché at the Embassy of the Netherlands in Cairo to explore avenues of cooperation in developing agriculture and agri-products across Upper Egypt.

The meeting focused on enhancing agricultural cooperatives with Dutch expertise, improving irrigation management, and introducing modern technologies to increase water-use efficiency in agriculture, as per a Cabinet statement.

The two sides also addressed opportunities in agri-processing and the development of agricultural value chains through enhanced manufacturing and marketing processes, according to the statement.

Sherif Ahmed Saleh, UEDA’s head, expressed his eagerness to deepen collaboration with the Dutch side, highlighting that such a partnership would contribute to sustainable development in Upper Egypt and raise living standards in the region.

Tycho Vermeulen, Agricultural Counsellor at the Dutch Embassy in Egypt, affirmed the Netherlands’ readiness to offer technical support and expertise for agricultural development in Upper Egypt. He underscored the importance of this cooperation in strengthening food security and achieving sustainable agricultural growth.

This collaboration strengthens the strong bilateral relations between Egypt and the Netherlands, focusing on exchanging agricultural expertise to support sustainable development and improve livelihoods in Upper Egypt.
