Microsoft said it will invest $400 million in Switzerland to expand its cloud computing and artificial intelligence infrastructure, Reuters reported on Monday.
The announcement followed a meeting in Bern between Swiss Economy Minister Guy Parmelin and Microsoft Vice Chair Brad Smith.
The US tech giant plans to use the investment to upgrade and expand its four data centres near Geneva and Zurich, enabling data to remain within Swiss borders — a key requirement for sectors such as healthcare, finance, and government.
Microsoft, which employs 1,000 people in Switzerland, did not specify how many new jobs the investment might create. The company also pledged to strengthen partnerships with small and medium-sized enterprises and expand training initiatives to boost digital and AI skills.
“Switzerland has created one of the world’s leading innovation ecosystems,” Smith said, praising the country’s blend of research excellence and practical application.
