Egypt’s PM explores stronger ties with Iraqi ambassador

Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly met with Iraq’s Ambassador to Cairo Qahtan Taha Khalaf Al-Janabi to discuss areas of mutual interest, according to a Cabinet statement.

Madbouly praised the growing ties between Egypt and Iraq, attributing the progress to the strong political will of both countries’ leadership. Al-Janabi affirmed the depth of bilateral relations and Iraq’s aspiration to strengthen cooperation with Egypt across various fields.

Al-Janabi highlighted the potential for further engagement through the Egyptian–Iraqi Higher Joint Committee, particularly involving the private sector. He also pointed to recent contracts secured by Egyptian companies for projects in Iraq.

He also expressed Iraq’s interest in enhancing cooperation in tourism—especially medical tourism—as well as in facilitating the enrollment process for Iraqi students in Egyptian universities. He also noted potential areas for collaboration in the petroleum and mineral resources sectors.

The meeting also addressed mechanisms to boost trilateral cooperation between Egypt, Iraq, and Jordan, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to activating joint agreements and initiatives among the three countries.

Madbouly reiterated President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s keenness to support Iraq’s reconstruction and acknowledged Iraq’s strategic importance and rich resources, emphasising Egypt’s readiness to deepen bilateral and trilateral cooperation.
