Egypt reviews ultrasound manufacturing with GE HealthCare

Egypt is moving forward with plans to localise the production of medical imaging equipment, including ultrasound and MRI machines, as part of broader efforts to strengthen the country’s healthcare infrastructure, the health ministry said on Thursday.

Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar met with Mohamed Haroun, General Manager of GE HealthCare Africa, to review progress on domestic manufacturing, including a facility in the 6th of October City that will produce ultrasound devices.

The two sides discussed developments in the strategic localisation project, including the launch of specialised workforce training to support operations and boost efficiency, the Cabinet said in a statement.

Egypt also plans to begin assembling its first domestically made MRI scanner, the ministry said, aligning with government efforts to reduce reliance on imports and position the country as a regional hub for medical equipment exports to Africa.

Minister Abdel Ghaffar highlighted the scale of Egypt’s healthcare sector and ongoing state-led investment in hospitals and medical infrastructure aimed at improving service quality nationwide.
