Egypt’s Sharm El-Sheikh joins ICLEI sustainability network
Egypt’s Sharm El-Sheikh has become the first city in the country to join the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives for Sustainable Stakeholders (ICLEI) – Local Governments for Sustainability, following a series of environmental efforts and achievements, as per a Cabinet statement on Sunday.
The city’s admission recognises its continued leadership in climate and biodiversity action, having hosted the UN Biodiversity Conference in 2018 and the UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) in 2022, the statement added.
Sharm El-Sheikh has also implemented a biodiversity strategy in the Ras Mohammed Nature Reserve and expanded solar energy investments, reinforcing its position as a regional model for green transformation.
