Egypt, Elsewedy Electric explore joint investments in mining, energy

Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi met with Elsewedy Electric CEO Ahmed El Sewedy to discuss expanding cooperation in mining, petroleum, petrochemicals, and green energy.

Badawi highlighted the ministry’s strategy, which offers investment opportunities across the oil and gas sector and a promising mining industry. He stressed the importance of the recent decision to convert the Mineral Resources Authority into an economic body under the name Egyptian Mineral Resources and Mining Industries Authority, which aims to attract local and foreign investment and position Egypt as a regional hub for value-added mining industries.

El Sewedy expressed interest in investing in phosphate and kaolin through value-adding downstream industries and confirmed the group’s plans to expand its presence in Egypt’s mining, green energy, petrochemicals, and exploration services sectors.

The meeting was attended by senior officials from the petroleum and mineral resources sectors.
