FSRU Energos Eskimo nears grid connection at Egypt’s Ain Sokhna Port – minister
Egypt’s Petroleum Minister Karim Badawy inspected final preparations for the Energos Eskimo floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) at Ain Sokhna Port on Wednesday, as the country moves to bolster its energy security and meet surging summer demand.
The vessel is scheduled to be connected to the SUMED berth to begin receiving and regasifying imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) for injection into Egypt’s national gas grid, the ministry said in a statement.
Ministry Badawy affirmed the petroleum sector’s full readiness to manage higher seasonal consumption, stressing the importance of on-site supervision and technical preparedness. He also commended the workforce for expediting delivery under tight timelines.
The project is being executed by Petrojet, with support from Enppi and GASCO, and is undergoing international certification ahead of full operational launch.
The move comes as Egypt ramps up infrastructure to offset domestic gas shortages, following supply disruptions earlier this year driven by regional tensions and fluctuating production levels.
