Egyptian investment platform Thndr on Wednesday launched Thndr Alpha, a new product aimed at helping first-time investors navigate the financial markets with ease, in a bid to expand retail participation across Egypt and the wider MENA region.
The guided feature offers personalized starter portfolios made up of equities, gold, and fixed income, tailored to users’ goals, risk appetite, and investment horizon. Users are prompted to answer three short questions before receiving a curated “Starter Pack” of assets powered by Thndr’s in-house investment engine, Rumble.
“We’ve seen it time and again — people want to invest, but they don’t know where to start,” said Ahmad Hammouda, Co-Founder and CEO of Thndr. “Alpha was designed to solve that exact problem.”
The launch comes after a record year for the platform, which accounted for 82 per cent of all new retail investor registrations in the Egyptian stock market in 2024, onboarding over 190,000 new investors.
Thndr Alpha also includes educational insights and performance data, allowing users to understand and adjust their portfolios within the app. The feature is available to all existing users and is expected to expand with additional tools later this year.
Founded in 2020, Thndr is one of the first fully digital investment platforms in the region, licensed by Egypt’s Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA) and Abu Dhabi’s ADGM. The platform gives users access to Egyptian and U.S. equities, mutual funds, gold, and savings products, and currently serves more than 4 million users.
The company has raised nearly $38 million to date from global backers including Tiger Global, Prosus Ventures, BECO Capital, and Y Combinator.
