Egypt’s Minister of Civil Aviation Sameh El-Hefny discussed Tuesday the potential launch of a direct Cairo–Los Angeles flight with the head of the General Union of Egyptians Abroad-USA, Raafat Salib, in a meeting focused on improving air services for the country’s US-based diaspora.
The delegation underscored the large Egyptian community in the United States and said stronger air connectivity would boost tourism, investment, and links with the homeland.
Minister El-Hefny said the ministry is rolling out a development plan to expand routes to high-priority destinations for expatriates. He added that EgyptAir will take delivery of new long-range Airbus A350 aircraft early next year, enabling the carrier to open non-stop services to cities such as Los Angeles.
The move is aimed at meeting growing demand, improving operational efficiency, and enhancing travel options for Egyptians living abroad, the minister said.
Salib expressed appreciation to Minister El-Hefny for his willingness to consider the community’s proposals, praising what he described as a “clear qualitative leap” in Egypt’s civil aviation sector. He said the progress reflects the political leadership’s commitment to strengthening ties with Egyptians abroad and offering support and facilitation that reinforce their enduring connection to Egypt.
