ICT Minister Says Foreign Firms are Ongoing in Egypt Regularly

Eng. Atef Helmy, Egyptian Minister of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), said the global firms which operating in the ICT sector, outsourcing services and exporting technological services are still ongoing.

Eng. Yasser ElKady, CEO of Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), has revealed that the current political turmoil won’t affect ITIDA’s current plan in order to export IT with EGP 2 billion.

ElKady added previously to Amwal Al Ghad that ITIDA continues to communicate with the foreign firms which dealing with local partners, stressing that the Egyptian firms has not received any complaints from foreigners or threats to halt investments in the local market.

The total exports value in ICT sector reached EGP 9.39 billion within the last two years, the sector contributed nearly EGP 1.56 billion such as tax and benefit services in the state Treasury, providing approximately 4.4% of Egypt’s Gross National income and providing 268 thousand job vacancies distributed among 83 thousand direct jobs and 185 thousand indirect one.

A report issued from the Ministry has elaborated that the total employees in exporting ICT sector are around 45.000 employees, pointing out that ITIDA has attracted investments worth $ 2 billion from the total EGP 4.38 billion investments.

The total sales of firms operating in the Egyptian market of foreign companies ICT sectors reached EGP 550 million in the end of 2011-2012 FY.
