Egypt exported 220,000 tons of food products last week, with Saudi Arabia and Sudan among the leading importers, the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) said in its weekly report for 27 Dec. – 2 Jan.
The report showed that around 6,341 food consignments were shipped by 1,369 companies, covering 652 products, including fruits, vegetables, tubers, prepared vegetable and fruit products, grains, and other processed foods.
Among vegetables, sweet potatoes led exports with 11,000 tons, followed by beans at 9,000 tons and mixed vegetables at 5,000 tons, for a total of 39 vegetable varieties weighing 40,000 tons.
Citrus fruits topped the fruit exports with 66,000 tons, followed by strawberries at 9,000 tons and dates at 5,000 tons, totalling 35 fruit varieties with 86,000 tons shipped.
Egyptian food exports reached 165 countries, with Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Russia, the United Arab Emirates, and Libya accounting for the largest shares, according to the NFSA.
