The Egyptian Drilling Company (EDC) secured a landmark contract in Kuwait to operate a 1,500-horsepower drilling rig in cooperation with Kuwait Oil Company (KOC), marking the first time an Egyptian company has been awarded a drilling contract with KOC.
Operations are scheduled to begin in early 2027, underscoring EDC’s growing presence in the Kuwaiti market, according to Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum’s statement on Wednesday.
EDC has maintained a branch in Kuwait since 2022, currently operating a rig for well maintenance with KOC and managing another under the Engineering Refineries General Trading & Contracting in partnership with a Kuwaiti national company. Its rigs in Kuwait are recognised for top operational performance and high occupational health and safety standards among all rigs working with KOC, reflecting EDC’s commitment to applying global best practices in operations and safety.
Beyond its current projects, EDC actively participates in tenders for drilling, well repair, and integrated drilling contracts offered by major international companies, including Halliburton, Schlumberger, and Baker Hughes.
The company also maintains a strong presence in Saudi Arabia through its subsidiary, Drilling and Petroleum Services Limited (DPS), conducting onshore and offshore drilling and well maintenance. DPS operates a fleet of seven onshore and three offshore rigs, with three currently in operation, and plans to increase this to six by April. Four additional rigs are linked to ongoing contracts, and existing agreements with Saudi Aramco extend until 2035.
EDC aims to expand its strategic partnerships, pursue further international opportunities, and support the ministry’s plans to enhance the role of national companies abroad, reinforcing its position as a leading drilling company both regionally and domestically.
