Egypt earmarks EGP 9bn to health in expanded social protection package
Egypt will inject an additional 9 billion Egyptian pounds ($193 million) into healthcare initiatives as part of its new social protection package, Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly said on Sunday.
The funding includes 3 billion pounds for state-funded medical treatment, another 3 billion pounds to eliminate surgical waiting lists, and more than 3 billion pounds to bring Minya Governorate into the country’s comprehensive health insurance system.
Madbouly said the measures are part of a broader social protection package directed by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, valued at over 40 billion pounds, which is scheduled for implementation by the end of the current fiscal year.
The move aims to expand access to healthcare, reduce treatment delays, and strengthen the government’s safety net for vulnerable populations ahead of Ramadan and Eid.
