Egypt, Japan’s Hiroshima University agree dual master’s programme, scholarships
Egypt signed a cooperation agreement with Japan’s Hiroshima University on Wednesday to expand academic collaboration and launch a dual master’s degree program in advanced science and technology fields, according to the higher education ministry.
The memorandum of understanding was signed by Higher Education Minister Abdelaziz Konsowa and Hiroshima University President Mitsuo Ochi, in the presence of Japan’s Ambassador to Cairo IWAI Fumio, senior Egyptian officials, and university representatives.
Under the agreement, Egyptian students will be able to earn dual master’s degrees from both Hiroshima University and the Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology (E-JUST), provided they meet the academic requirements of both institutions. The programme will focus on priority fields such as semiconductor technology, engineering, and other advanced scientific disciplines.
The agreement also provides for 10 annual scholarships for Egyptian students, covering tuition, accommodation, travel, insurance, and living expenses during study periods in both Egypt and Japan. The programme is scheduled to begin with the October 2026 intake and will run over three cohorts through 2030.
Konsowa said the deal reflects Egypt’s efforts to integrate its higher education system into global networks and enhance the international competitiveness of Egyptian universities. He added that cooperation with Japan serves as a model for strategic academic partnerships through E-JUST.
The signing also included an executive agreement for the dual master’s programme between Hiroshima University and E-JUST.
