Egypt accelerates renewable energy project approvals

Egypt’s Cabinet approved changes to regulatory timelines for renewable energy projects on Wednesday, in a move aimed at accelerating investment and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

The decision shortens the timeframe for technical studies, measurements, and environmental impact assessments to a maximum of 18 months, from 24 months previously, under rules governing land use for renewable energy projects.

It also reduces the financial close deadline to 24 months, down from 30 months.

The amendments apply to rules issued under Cabinet Resolution No. 54 of 2023 governing usufruct rights over land for renewable energy projects.
